Welcome to Passion For Pastels
I spent my childhood living among picturesque coastal villages in both England and Wales before studying for a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics which was followed by an international career in banking, and art could not have been further from my future. Soon in to my banking career I was sent on secondment to be a Bank Manager in Spain, where I still live having left the Bank many years ago.

As a self taught artist, I fell into art and the medium of pastels purely by chance. I quickly gained my passion for pastels and now paint full time. I love the connection and direct touch between my fingers and the paper when using pastels, and they allow me the freedom to enjoy the intuitive process of just using my hands and directly feeling the painting grow. Pastels give me the freedom to become totally absorbed in my work and I love that they produce an immediate result.

I have always felt a natural affinity with the coast and the sea having always lived in coastal areas. Usually I strive to paint a feeling , and usually that feeling is of calm. I want to paint a scene that I would love to jump into, to feel it, to settle my soul. With seascapes there are so many feelings that can be portrayed with the ever changing light and the ever moving water, the changing moods, the changing beauty, the calm and the drama. So the chance to paint scenes I love, full of light air and hope keeps me returning to the ocean, wherever I am in the world.

I am very fortunate to paint from my studio overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and love receiving personal commissions from all over the world: Through the reaches of social media I have been lucky enough to sell worldwide and I have received many varied commissioned pieces to paint for clients too, which are always a pleasure, from A4 smaller pieces right up to 1.5M wide triptychs. It is an honour to recreate someone’s special memory or to create a new one. One of the biggest compliments I can receive on a piece I have painted is that it generates a sense of peace and relaxation in the viewer too.

In 2020 I was selected by Unison Colour Soft Pastels to be an Associate Artist. For me they are unbeatable for their quality, reliability and superior blend-ability. Their buttery softness is a joy to work with and I find the depth of pigmentation is perfect for my work. I am slowly building up my perfect sunrise to sunset beach set of shades. I have exhibited my works in various Art Galleries in Spain.

My art work is for sale and I am happy to receive any enquiries about commissioned pieces to create your own personal artwork.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me using the ‘Contact Me’ section to discuss any paintings, with no obligation.
